Expert Instruction
Learn from an instructor with deep experience applying PHMSA cylinder regulations and CGA inspection standards in real-world compliance and training environments.
Training Philosophy
At Independent Cylinder Training, instruction is grounded in the belief that effective safety training must be based on regulatory accuracy, technical understanding, and practical inspection judgment, not simply repetition of industry habits or legacy practices. Compressed gas cylinder inspection is governed by federal law. Inspectors must understand not only what to do, but why the regulations require it. Training therefore emphasizes interpretation and application of 49 CFR cylinder requirements, supported by CGA inspection procedures and relevant NFPA responsibilities. The goal is to develop inspectors who can make defensible compliance decisions in real-world environments, not just follow checklists.
Certification
Receive a training certificate compliant with 49 CFR 172.700 upon completion to meet DOT's training requirements, showcase your expertise and enhance your career prospects.
About the Course
External Visual Inspection Method (49 CFR ยง180.209(g)) This course provides practical, regulation-based training for personnel responsible for performing DOT-authorized external visual only requalification of cylinders used in propane and other authorized gas service. Participants learn how to determine eligibility, evaluate cylinder defects, apply corrosion limits, and correctly mark cylinders in compliance with 49 CFR Part 180. Designed for cylinder fillers, inspectors, safety managers, and compliance personnel, this program delivers the knowledge required to confidently perform visual-only requalification using CGA inspection standards and current PHMSA requirements. Unlike generic industry courses, this training emphasizes real inspection decision-making, regulatory defensibility, and proper application of condemnation criteria in the field.
